All games in Classic mode have two main kinds of players, Crewmates and Impostors.
Crewmate: One of the crew. Do your tasks so you can make it out alive! But try to pay attention to what others are doing and see if you can figure out who's actually an Impostor...
Impostor: Looks like a Crewmate, but with nefarious intentions! Blend into the group, fake your tasks, and wait for your chance to murder all the Crewmates on the map to win.
But that's not all! Crewmates and Impostors can have their own specialized roles depending on the settings the host selects when making the game.
Crewmate Roles
-
Scientist: access vitals at any time! Completing tasks recharges your battery so you can keep an eye on the Crew and tell when something has happened.
-
Engineer: use the vents to your advantage! Engineers can enter vents to traverse the map quickly, watch rooms in secret, and even escape tricky situations. But you only get to use the vents a limited number of times, so don't waste them!
-
Guardian Angel: a regular Crewmate in life and a powerful protector in death! After this Crewmate has been killed, they gain the ability to Cast a protective shield around a living Crewmate and thwart the Impostor. But be careful, the shield doesn't last long, so timing is important.
-
Tracker: need to secretly keep tabs on another player? The Tracker can do that! Place a tracker on another player and watch where they go on your map.
-
Noisemaker: Just a normal Crewmate...until they die. When the Noisemaker dies, they set off an alarm so everyone knows to come running! The room host can decide whether or not the Impostors can tell if a Noisemaker alarm has gone off.
Impostor Role
-
Shapeshifter: disguise yourself by shifting into any other Crewmate! This role can pull up a menu of all other living Crewmates in the game and select one to copy their appearance (name, color, and cosmetics). However, the shapeshifting only lasts for a limited amount of time before you a forced back to your own body. Crewmates can see you midway through shapeshifting if they’re within line of sight, and the shift will leave evidence behind, so pick where and when you shift carefully. During meetings, the Shapeshifter will appear as their original selves.
-
Phantom: vanish from sight! This role allows the Impostor to temporarily disappear in a puff of smoke. Other players can see you disappear and reappear but nothing in between (duh). You can't kill while invisible, but it gives you a great opportunity to escape after scoring a kill or to surprise a lone Crewmate...Note that all roles can be altered, turned on, or turned off in the game lobby settings!
