If you're trying to start Among Us and you're getting a black screen instead of seeing the game, we're sorry for the inconvenience!
This can be caused by a several different things. However, there are a few troubleshooting steps that you can try in the meantime. NOTE: This will only work on Windows. Unfortunately, other platforms are a lot harder to fix manually.
Find your save files:
- On Windows PCs, all save data is located at: %userprofile%\AppData\LocalLow\Innersloth\Among Us
- All of the files in this folder are your save data files!
Back-up your existing files first!!!
1. Select all files in the save data folder
2. Right click them
3. Click "Copy"
4. Create a new folder anywhere on your computer (outside of the AmongUs folder!)
5. Name it "Backups"
6. Inside the new Backups folder, right click and click "Paste"
If you ever need to re-load previous backup files, just copy all the files from the Backups folder back into the AmongUs folder
How to fix the problem:
1. Make sure you've created backups for all of these files first!
2. Delete your player.amogus file
3. Open the playerPrefs file
- Right click the file
- Choose "Open with.."
- Select "Notepad" and click "OK"
The text file will contain a long line of text separated by commas (,)
DO NOT change any of the text after the first comma!
If the contents starts with a name before the first comma:
1. Remove that name text
2. Continue to the next steps
If the file starts with a comma (,) or spaces before a comma:
1. Remove any spaces before the first comma
2. Type a name BEFORE the first comma
- This name MUST only be letters
- This name MUST be different from the last name you had, if any
- This name MUST be LESS than 10 characters
- No spaces, no numbers, no punctuation or symbols
3. Save the file
a. In the menu, click "File"
b. Click "Save"
c. Try to run the game again!
If this fix didn't solve the problem, restore your backups. This should at least return your save data to it's previous state so you don't lose any progress!
How to restore save data from backups:
1. Deleting all the contents in the Among Us folder
2. Copy the backup files you made in your Backups folder
3. Paste those files back into your Among Us folder
